🗨️ A few words from Master Shi Miao Dian
少林金刚小炮捶
Shàolín Jīngāng Xiǎo Pàochuí
“‘The Small Form: The Hammering Cannon of the Celestial Guardian’ is an ancient and traditional Shaolin martial art form.
This form stands out from other Kung Fu styles for its alternation between internal (内家拳 – Nèi jiā quán) and external (外家拳 – Wài jiā quán) boxing. It is also characterized by its low stances, ‘silk-reeling’ (纏絲勁 – Chán sī jìn), and rapid sequences of explosive power release (发劲 – Fā jìn). Tai Chi practitioners will find similarities with the Chen style of Tai Chi (陳氏太極 – Chén shì tàijí), the Chen Pao Chui (陈炮捶 – Chén pào chuí).
This form will allow you to develop your energy and maintain your health.
This form is aimed at beginners as well as advanced practitioners of internal and external arts, Tai Chi practitioners, and Kung Fu enthusiasts.
Ancient scriptures mentioning the new Emperor Li Shimin (李世民 – Lǐ Shìmín) of the Tang dynasty (618-907) report that in the origins of Shaolin, there were forms of Rou Quan (柔拳 – Róu Quán) “Soft Fist,” as well as forms of Pao Chui (炮捶 – Pào Chuí) also known as “Cannon-Hammer.” The Rou Quan techniques came from the “Nei Gong” (内功 – Nèi Gōng) internal work methods, established by the old monks of the Shaolin Temple. The Pao Chui techniques, on the other hand, come from the army, which at that time greatly influenced the martial arts of Shaolin.
Later, it was Master Chen Wangting (陈王庭 – Chén Wángtíng), founder of the Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan during the Ming dynasty (1368 – 1644), who studied Shaolin boxing and specifically the Shaolin Pao Chui “Cannon-Hammer.”
Many historians, therefore, argue that Shaolin martial arts played a significant role in the birth of Chen Tai Chi. Indeed, the similarities between the Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan form, the “Chen’s Cannon Fist” (陈炮捶 – Chén Pào Chuí), and its predecessor, the ancient form “The Small Form: ‘The Hammering Cannon’ of the Celestial Guardian” (少林金刚小炮捶 – Shàolín Jīngāng Xiǎo Pàochuí), are very numerous.
少林双匕首
Shàolín Shuāng Bǐshǒu
The Shaolin Double Daggers technique is one of the rarest forms of the Monastery. It mainly consists of four routines: two for a single dagger and two for double daggers.
Its movements primarily include techniques such as lifting (挑 – tiāo), pointing (点 – diǎn), sweeping (扫 – sǎo), deflecting (拨 – bō), pressing (压 – yā), cleaving (劈 – pī), blocking (拦 – lán), separating (隔 – gé), and upward slashing (撩 – liāo), targeting the three levels of the human body: upper, middle, and lower. It harmoniously combines offense and defense and is highly practical. The movements of rising (起 – qǐ), falling (落 – luò), retracting (收 – shōu), leaping (纵 – zòng), advancing (进 – jìn), retreating (退 – tuì), turning (转 – zhuǎn), and sidestepping (侧 – cè) are all executed along a single straight line, which is a typical characteristic of the Shaolin martial arts style.
An old poem (歌曰 – gē yuē) says:
The daggers of Shaolin, truly to be praised,
They block, deflect, sweep, slash, cleave, and pierce through endless days.
With inward and outward rotations, the wrists come alive,
Targeting the human body where the three levels thrive.
Forward, backward, left, right, high, low, and askew,
With long practice, you master its wonders and can roam the world through.
